Abstract:
|
Over the course of a three-year dissemination grant, the RealTime Physics and Interactive Lecture Demonstration (RTP/ILD) materials have been used at a variety of institutions across the United States. Evaluation of these materials has been carried out through use of a variety of standardized tests (Force and Motion Concept Evaluation, Maryland Physics Expectations Survey, Electric Circuits Concept Evaluation, etc.). In this talk, I summarize the findings of the past three years. Student normalized gains are well above traditional instruction gains, but well below those reported by the autors of the RTP/ILD materials. Student attitudes are consistent with those in other reform based but traditionally configured classes. Serious implementation problems with the curriculum and with the evaluation process also must be addressed in a future study of this nature.
