Abstract:
|
The study aimed to assess the growth of students’ understanding of selected quantum mechanics (QM) concepts especially their ability to visualize these concepts after completing a formal quantum mechanics course. The subjects consisted of physics students enrolled in sophomore, junior and graduate physics quantum mechanic courses. Data were collected during the fall of 1999 via the Quantum Mechanics Visualization Instrument, a 25-item multiple-choice test. The data was analyzed by ANOVA and t-test procedures. This paper will discuss the findings of this study and report on students’ growth of visual understanding of selected topics in quantum mechanics.
