Help Make a Difference
How many times have you wanted to implement a project but have been unable to do so because of a lack of funding?
How many times have you tried to encourage a bright student to become a physics teacher only to have them tell you the career opportunities were better in other fields? Or that they couldn't afford the tuition?
How many times did you wish someone would recognize outstanding contributions to physics teaching?
With your help, the American Association of Physics Teachers may be able to offer funding to make some of these dreams a reality.
What AAPT Can Do
AAPT currently funds many programs which help future physics teachers as well as established members of the profession.
Every year, through the generosity of Barbara Lotze's endowment, AAPT awards a scholarship to a student who plans to teach physics.
Every year, physics teachers in developing countries benefit because Richard and Robert Fuller honored their parents by giving AAPT a gift. Their gift provides memberships to teachers in developing countries with nonconvertible currencies.
Every year, members receive grants from the Bauder Fund—an endowment set up by Francis Bauder to support special activities such as demonstrator workshops and the building of apparatus.
But AAPT wants to do more, and we need your help.
Planned Giving
AAPT is able to make these awards through the generosity and commitment of our members—people like you. People who gave either outright gifts or used planned giving to create endowments.
Planned giving is a way to make a gift and receive advantageous tax treatment under state and federal laws. You can enjoy tax savings while turning appreciated assets into an income for yourself or others.
One method of planned giving is to create an endowment—a gift that AAPT holds in perpetuity. The gift is invested, and only a portion of its average annual investment return is used for purposes specified by the donor. The goal is to ensure that the principal maintains its value over time.
We want donors to be confident that their gifts will grow and continue to support projects and programs to benefit physics teachers in the years to come.
A cash gift is the easiest and most direct way to create an endowment. Endowments also can be established with gifts of stocks, bonds, real estate, or life insurance. It also is possible to create an endowment through a future gift from an estate. This can benefit your heirs by minimizing estate taxes.
What Do You Want Your Legacy to Be?
Teachers make a difference. You help shape the future. AAPT can help you determine what you want your legacy to be—to your family, to your fellow teachers, and to tomorrow's future teachers
