STEM Equity Achievement (SEA) Change, a project of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), challenges, supports, and recognizes institutions of higher education and their departments/schools for their efforts in taking decisive actions to remove systemic, structural barriers for those who have been marginalized on the basis of gender (including identity and expression), race, ethnicity, disability status, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, age, familial history of higher education, as well as the intersections between these identities, with a clear aim: to enable the full diversity of talented individuals to pursue, persist and succeed in science, technology, engineering, medicine and mathematics (STEMM) higher education (at all levels) and in their careers. In the SEA Change process, inclusion, and its valuable impacts, are measured by the experiences of students and faculty, as well as by data.

The SEA Change Principles can be found here:

Is your department interested in doing a deep dive to better understand itself regarding diversity and inclusion? Does your department want to do systemic change around diversity, equity, and inclusion but may not know where to start?

The Physics and Astronomy STEMM Equity Achievement (SEA) Change Departmental Program is recruiting for its 4th cohort! P/A SEA Change is a collaboration among 11 physics and astronomy professional societies, including AAPT, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

We invite physics and astronomy postsecondary education departments in the United States (US) or US territories to apply to join cohort 4. Please apply for cohort 4 here by 1 August 2024 at 5 PM ET. We plan on informing departments whether they are joining cohort 4 by early September 2024.

If you have any questions, please email Dr. Alexis V. Knaub, Director of P/A SEA Change, at
