WM12 Theme: The Wave Nature of Light & Matter
Maxwell’s equations, which made possible a unifying leap from electricity and magnetism to electromagnetic waves, and an understanding of light, were published 150 years ago. Further, 2012 is the 75th anniversary of the Davisson-Germer Nobel Prize for wave nature of matter. California is known for its water waves, so join us to explore the physics of waves and entertainment.
The 2012 AAPT Winter meeting will be held in Ontario, California at the Ontario Convention Center, with the Doubletree Ontario serving as the main conference hotel. Pre-meeting workshops will take place at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
The Out-Laws of Physics Fundraiser
This AAPT fundraiser will feature a lively five-person band formed in November 2003 by members of the Physics Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. After working together more than 15 years in the Cal Poly Pomona Physics Department, in 2003 four Out-Laws (Jolene Houser, John Mallinckrodt, John Jewett, Harvey Leff) formed this high-energy band, and bassist John Hadden joined in 2006." The Out-Laws of Physics genre is vintage country music, with some rock and roll, blues and a little swing. ($20 -Tuesday, February 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.)
