AAPT Summer Meeting - July 25-29, 2009

Former president of AAPT (1965) and professor of physics at U-M (1934-1978), H.R. Crane invented the racetrack synchrotron, a significant improvement in particle accelerator technology.

PERC 2009

The 2009 Physics Education Research Conference will be held immediately after the AAPT Summer Meeting in Ann Arbor, MI.


Apparatus Competition

The Apparatus Competition was established to recognize, reward, and publicize worthwhile contributions to physics teaching through demonstration and experiment. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a notice of interest before June 30 and complete the application form by July 1. The Competition is held annually during AAPT's summer meeting and is open to all members.

PASCO Scientific is generously providing cash prizes to the creators of this year's winning entries.

U.S. Physics Team

Team America Rocketry Challenge

AAPT is proud to be the sole Educational Partner for the 2009 Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). TARC is the world's largest rocket design launch contest. Approximately 7,000 students participate each year. Students must design, build, and fly a one-stage model rocket carrying one raw egg to an altitude of exactly 750 feet while staying airborne for exactly 45 seconds and returning the egg uncracked. The latest: The top 100 teams gathered for the final round May 16 at Great Meadow in The Plains, VA! A team from Madison, WI., took first place at the Seventh Annual Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), taking on the title of national champion.
Congratulations to the 2009 TARC Lesson Plan Contest winners: First Place, Jonathan Everett (Milton Hershey School), Second Place, Harold Larson (Seabrook Middle School), and Third Place, Guy Guglielimi (Whitefish Bay High School).
