Biography
I immigrated to the United States three years ago from China. My three years experience at Brookline High School has been both exciting and rewarding. In the past two years, I have been having fun studying engineering mechanics and solving electromagnetism problems with multivariable calculus on my own. In this academic year, I finished my Multivariable Calculus course and continue my second semester Organic Chemistry class at Harvard Extension School. I have participated in a variety of math contests such as the ARML, AMC, AIME, USAMO, and HMMT. In the summer of my junior year, I spent six weeks in the PROMYS math camp at Boston University (BU). I won first place in the 2003 HMMT Calculus Exam. I also do well in chemistry. I won first place in the 45th Avery A. Ashdown High School Chemistry Contest in my junior year.
I also love to contribute and help my school and students. I was so enthusiastic in the summer after my junior year that I developed websites for the school math team and AP Chemistry class, both of which contain a lot of useful documents. Since I learned how to edit math and science text in LaTeX, I have been using it to compile large amounts of studying notes for the math and science department. It is one of the most interesting things I enjoy. I just finished organizing a 40-plus-page document of physics notes, which will become a helpful resource for the students who are interested in physics and the preparation of a U.S. Physics Team in the future. Also, I love tutoring and teaching students. I am a lab assistant and teacher assistant in my school’s science department. This year I have taught five periods of AP Chemistry, one period of AP Chemistry Lab, and one period of AP Physics when teachers were not available. As a captain of the math team, I frequently conduct studying sections in which I present problem-solving strategies to the members. When my peers have problems in math and science, they always come to me and I am more than happy to answer them.
In my free time, I love to go biking, play badminton and take photos, especially pictures of landscape and animals. In the summer, biking along the Charles River in Boston is always one of my favorite activities.
