Biography
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I'm currently a junior at Harvard-Westlake where I've attended school since the seventh grade.
I've always loved mathematics, and through the years I've done a lot of independent reading in the subject. I was very fortunate to be able to go mostly at my own pace in elementary school so that by the ninth grade I took AP Calculus BC and loved it. Since seventh grade, I've participated in numerous math competitions, including the AMC (8, 10, and 12), AIME, CAML, CML, and Mandelbrot, culminating in my participation in the USAMO last year. I was very excited finally to be able to take physics this year (AP Physics C - Mechanics and Electricity Plus Magnetism).
I've participated in Harvard-Westlake's Robotics Team since it was founded last year. The team participates in a competition known as FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). We build a remote-controlled robot according to specific requirements, and the goal is for the robot to compete in a game, different each year. Last year, our first, our robot had multiple difficulties moving in competition, but this year we were very proud to be able to drive our robot around.
I'm also in AP French Language and AP Latin Vergil; I truly enjoy foreign languages and have a particular love for Latin. I started French in middle school, but became interested in Latin while quizzing a classmate on the school bus. After taking a Latin placement exam, the school let me join my friends in Latin in the ninth grade. Last year, I took the National Latin Exam and received a gold medal. I also earned recognition on Le Grand Concours, the national French competition.
Although I intend to major in physics when I go to college, I plan to continue my study of these languages, and I hope to add Greek. I enjoy playing classical piano, and I enjoy all card games (especially Bridge) and crossword puzzles (especially the cryptic kind).
