Biography
I am a nerd. I greatly enjoy physics, math, programming, employment, computers, and my social life. Although I have received many more honors and awards in math, the few I have gotten in physics signify greater achievement.
Four to five times a year, since freshmen year, I have participated in the OML contests, which consist of six interesting math questions. I almost always get five or six, and have been listed every year. This year, I have also participated in a similar contest called the Computer Science League, with a theme of programming, which has proved quite interesting, and on which I also do well. Also, the last two years I have participated in the TEAMS competition at the University of Akron, helping our team of eight score first in our division both years.
Freshmen and Sophomore years I took the AMC-10, and this year the AMC-12, scoring 132, 144, and 133.5 out of 150 respectively. The score of 144 earned me first place in Ohio. All of these scores allowed me to advance to the next round and take the AIME, on which I did quite well. Last year I advanced to the next round to take the USAMO, which is the qualifying exam for the U.S. Math team. Hopefully I'll do the same this year. Also, I have taken the OHMIO test all three years of high school, although only attending the second half at Capital University the last two years.
Last year I scored forth overall (in Ohio), and this year second. Also, last year I participated in the Physics Bowl competition, and scored first in the states of Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. Lastly, I have made it to this point, and have been invited to the US Physics Team.
Quite often, through school and outside, I have formally and informally tutored many other students and helped them with many subjects. In my free time, I have more than enough things to do. I work part time at CVS/Pharmacy (about 15 hours/week), and have my own business. When I have business, I build computers for people in my neighborhood, or help them with problems. I legally own a business, RedwavePC. I also spend a large part of my day with my computer, and books, learning as much I can. I am currently reading the Feynman Lectures on Physics and the Open GL Red Book (Programming), both of which are extremely fascinating and very useful. I have been spending a lot of time programming, trying to write a complex system to model real life physics, which proves to be quite challenging.
I also spend time with my girlfriend, at least once per week. Every summer I am part of the neighborhood swim team with a large group of neighborhood friends, helping me stay in shape. However, there are three things of which I am most proud: I am able to motivate myself and am very interested in learning large amounts by myself; I have a wonderful girlfriend with whom I have been dating for more than a year; and through working, I have been able to buy almost everything that I have, while putting money away for college. However, on top of it all, I am just a nerd, and I love it.
