Biography
I was born in Shanghai, China, on Dec. 31, 1988, and moved to Canada at the age of three. I subsequently moved to North Carolina (Go Duke!), Delaware, and finally to California, where I have lived for the past six years. Right now, I am a sophomore at the Harker School in San Jose, CA. My academic interests primarily include math and science, so I am currently taking AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, and AP Computer Science. Last year, I took the AP Calculus BC exam, getting a 5, and I am now taking Multivariate Calculus and Differential Equations. I took the SAT in both 7th and 8th grades, getting a 1500 and 1510, respectively, managing to keep my math score at 800 both times. I also got an 800 on my Math IIC SAT II.
Outside of school, I have qualified for the USA Math Olympiad for two consecutive years, advancing to MOP each time. I have also participated in various other math competitions such as ARML, Mandelbrot, and the Asian Pacific Math Olympiad, on which I still don't know my score almost a month. This year, I began to participate in the online competitions for the USACO, but my scores are not very exciting. Also, our Science Bowl team finally advanced to nationals. Therefore, I am going to Washington soon to compete in the National Science Bowl. Last year, I somehow got second place nationwide at the second year level for the National French Exam despite my relatively small amount of French knowledge; however, I guess my creative guessing on the culture parts of the test paid off. Obviously, I took the U.S. Physics Olympiad Semifinal Exam, the hardest physics test I have ever taken, and I was fortunate enough to be chosen for the U.S. Physics Team. As a side note, extrapolating magnetism formulae from electricity formulae during the semifinal exam was not fun. Anyhow, my nonacademic interests include reading, playing computer games such as StarCraft and CounterStrike, listening to trance and techno music, watching Duke basketball games, and swimming. Unfortunately, this list keeps dwindling as my free time disappears.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you at the camp.
