Coordinator Position Description

The eMentor Coordinator has general oversight of the AAPT eMentor program:

  • Each day, check the AAPT eMentoring website for alerts to see if a new mentee has registered, chosen their eMentor, or potential eMentors have accepted or declined an invitation to mentor a new mentee.
  • When a new mentee registers, check that they are actively teaching physics in a U.S. high school, and, if so, select up to six potential AAPT eMentors to invite as their eMentor.
  • When a new mentee registers, check that they are actively teaching physics in a U.S. high school, and, if so, select up to six potential AAPT eMentors to invite as their eMentor.
  • Send a welcome message to the mentee advising them they should be able to choose their eMentor in a week, follow up with names of potential eMentors, and send reminders until one has been selected.  Move mentees to “inactive” status if an eMentor is never selected.
  •  Keep records about actions take or need to be taken by mentors, mentees, and/or the coordinator.
  • At least every other month, prepare an eMentoring Program Status Updates and email to AAPT Executive Officer (and other AAPT staff members) and the eMentoring Program Advisory Committee.
  • Correspond with AAPT Staff about desired changes to the eMentoring website.
  • Review new eMentor credentials to make sure the AAPT member has taught physics in high school.
  • Oversee the evaluation of the program, specifically, the distribution of surveys to both mentors and mentees.
  • Make recommendations about improvements to the program.
  • Other duties related to the eMentor program as negotiated with the Executive Officer.

All together, this position takes several hours a week for eMentoring Program tasks.
