When rays of sunlight pass through my iced tea, the rays bend or refract into different patterns on the counter due to the high indices of refraction of the liquid and the glass. Also, the sunlight is refracted as it passes through the upper half of the glass, producing additional light patterns. In addition, the sunlight is reflected from the glass and iced tea surface. The glass and iced tea combination serves as a double convex cylindrical lens, as you can see by where the light rays converge on the far side of the glass.
