Bio

Hey everyone, I'm Lucy and I've grown up in Ames, Iowa, a friendly and unassuming college town. To those who might laugh at my state as one big pig-infested cornfield, I really can't say anything since we do have five times as many pigs as people and do produce the most corn out of all the states. But at the same time, Iowa is a slice of America, where good old Midwestern values of politeness, sincerity, and modesty are entrenched, and to where potential presidential candidates have always flocked.

Ever since I can remember, I've been interested in math, and as I took my first real science classes in high school, I also developed a strong interest in biology. Last summer, I had the opportunity to attend two stimulating summer camps: the US Physics Team and the Research Science Institute. At physics camp, my interest in physics piqued, and at RSI, I had my first stab at scientific research, working on a molecular biology project.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but my experiences last summer provided me with something I was missing before. Perhaps it was a multitude of new friends who love math/science as much as I do, and perhaps it was a keener awareness of the scientific community. In any case, I'm eager to see what new delights these subjects can offer!

This fall, I'm going to be studying at Harvard in perhaps something math/physics/bio, I haven't really decided yet. I'd like to thank my physics teacher Mike Lazere, all my other teachers, my parents, and my friends for helping me get this far. I look forward to going back to camp for more games of Dominion and ridiculous five-hour exams, and for seeing old friends again and making new ones. I hope we'll all get along smashingly!
