      • A thrilling adventure story chronicling the perilous journey of the scientists who set out to prove the theory of relativity–the results of which catapulted Albert Einstein to fame and forever changed our understanding of the universe. In 1911, a relatively unknown physicist named Albert Einstein published his preliminary theory of gravity. But it hadn’t been tested. To do that, he needed a photograph of starlight as it passed the sun during a total solar eclipse. So began a nearly decade-long quest by seven determined astronomers from observatories in four countries, who traveled the world during five eclipses to capture the elusive sight. Over the years, they faced thunderstorms, the ravages of a world war, lost equipment, and local superstitions. Finally, in May of 1919, British expeditions to northern Brazil and the island of Príncipe managed to photograph the stars, confirming Einstein’s theory. At its heart, this is a story of frustration, faith, and ultimate victory–and of the scientists whose efforts helped build the framework for the big bang theory, catapulted Einstein to international fame, and shook the foundation of physics.

      • For years white women and people of color have been told the best way to respond to the stress of managing institutions not created for them is self-care. While some forms of self-care can be important, it is not enough for finding ways to engage our organizations in ways that feel authentic and honest. This session focuses on cultivating a practice of resilience, on constructing communities of care, and finding ways to enact resistance to practices that are used to disempower and often silence us in our organizational structures.

Guided tours available daily), Astronaut Encounter (Meet an astronaut during a live presentation at Universe Theater, included with daily admission. Bring your questions and your camera!), Moonscape (See the real Lunar Module 9 with a life-sized scene from the Apollo 11 Moon landing.), Lunar Theater (Relive the final few minutes leading up to the first words ever spoken from the surface of the Moon, “…the Eagle has landed.”), Hubble Space Telescope Theater (Learn about the successes, setbacks and spinoffs of Hubble Space Telescope, the first of NASA’s Great Space Observatories.), the actual unforgettable HUGE Saturn V Rocket (Every human who stepped foot on the Moon launched from Kennedy Space Center atop a Saturn V rocket. Learn about the power of this rocket and imagine what it was like to launch into space on this massive machine.) and MUCH, MUCH MORE! Our bus will leave the NASA Complex at 3:30pm to arrive back at the hotel by 4:30pm for the evening activities at the Conference.
