Is this a photo of planets in space? No, this is a photo of the granite bench top in my kitchen. The different colored sparkling dots are actually tiny, highly reflective pieces in the granite. The photograph was taken by beaming white light onto the granite. The white light was slightly refracted by the glazing applied to the granite surface. This refracted ray of light is then reflected off the tiny silvery pieces. This reflected light was then refracted a second time due to the glazing, causing the white light to split up into its constituent colors.
