Davies Named as First Recipient of the Doc Brown Futures Award

College Park, Maryland,United States, August 4, 2020—AAPT has announced that the recipient of the Doc Brown Futures Award is Kenric Davies. He has the honor of being the first recipient of this new award. The Doc Brown Futures Award recognizes early-career members who demonstrate excellence in their contributions to AAPT and physics education and exhibit the potential to serve in an AAPT leadership role. The award will be presented during the 2021 Virtual Winter Meeting.

Beth Parks to be Next Editor of the American Journal of Physics

Douglas Brown will be Recognized as a 2020 Recipient of the Homer L. Dodge Citation for Distinguished Service to AAPT

AAPT has announced that Douglas Brown will receive the association's Homer L. Dodge Citation for Distinguished Service to AAPT, during their 2020 Summer Meeting.
Brown is Physics Professor Emeritus, Cabrillo College, Aptos, California. In retirement, he continues to actively support Tracker, the free video analysis and modeling tool he developed as part of the Open Source Physics project. A member of AAPT since 1991, he has been recognized for teaching excellence and served as department chair at Cabrillo. He is currently a resource editor for the Tracker collection in the ComPADRE digital library. Tracker is widely used in the physics community with over 1 million downloads. It has been translated into 26 languages and it is regularly cited in The Physics Teacher, with 81 citations for the original 2009 Tracker paper (Vol 47, p 145).

Dan Burns will be Recognized as a 2020 Recipient of the Homer L. Dodge Citation for Distinguished Service to AAPT

AAPT has announced that Dan Burns will receive the association's Homer L. Dodge Citation for Distinguished Service to AAPT, during their 2020 Summer Meeting.
Burns taught Advanced Placement Physics and Earth/Space Science at Los Gatos High School in Los Gatos, California for 27 years. He is currently the physics curriculum and training specialist at PASCO scientific in Roseville, CA.

Deborah Mason-McCaffrey Receives the AAPT 2020 David Halliday and Robert Resnick Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Physics Teaching

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) announced today that Deborah Mason-McCaffrey will receive the 2020 David Halliday and Robert Resnick Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Physics Teaching. This award is given in recognition of contributions to undergraduate physics teaching and awardees are chosen for their extraordinary accomplishments in communicating the excitement of physics to their students. John Wiley & Sons is the principal source of funding for this award, through its donation to the AAPT.

Ann Walkup Receives 2020 Paul W. Zitzewitz Excellence in K-12 Teaching Award

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) announced today that the 2020 Paul Zitzewitz Excellence in K-12 Physics Teaching Award winner is Ann Walkup, a physics teacher at Cranston High School East, Cranston, Rhode Island. This award is in recognition for contributions to pre-college physics teaching and awardees are chosen for their extraordinary accomplishments in communicating the excitement of physics to their students.
