This photo exemplifies total internal reflection. Water was poured into a bucket with a hole in one side. A laser beam was then aimed through that hole, where the water poured out. Since the index of refraction of air is 1.00 and water is 1.33, the laser beam traveled from a high to low index of refraction. The reason that the beam of light was reflected within the stream was because the incident angle of the light beam was greater than the critical angle, which resulted in total internal reflection.
